!!!!!Life in 2040!!!!

Well when I wake up from smart memory micro fiber bed that molds to my body and regulates my temperature, I would brush my teeth with my super cleaning micro organism tooth paste that guarantees my teeth from ever staining, getting cavities or falling out in old age. I wouldn't need to use my smart, self navigating hover car to any school because to learn new material, all one would need to do is wear a helmet that stimulates my brain while feeding me information for an hour. After my hour is up, I would call my friends through an implanted communication device in my inner ear, almost like a hearing aid of the year 2010, to go play some basket ball at the local about three miles down the street. It's not too far so I think I will just take my hover board which can reach speeds of 45MPH. I'm wearing my classics Micheal Jordan "kicks" with some temperature regulating clothes to keep my cool while I play an intense game of basket ball.
I know this probably sounds more like life in the year 3030, but I really don't think too many changes will take place in thirty years. The only things that I see really hanging are home electronics appliances and cars. But I do not see any thing too dramatic.

Pictures in our Heads

The article Pictures in our Heads, was an article that I agree with. I personally do think that the media plays a significant role in the way people think. If some one watches a lot of crime on T.V., it would not surprise me the slightest bit if they think that the community has a lot of crime in it.
The conclusion that can be drawn from Gerbner's television program analysis is that heavy T.V. viewers will portray the world in a way that the media portrays it. Iyengars' and Kinders' experiment helped support Gerbner's conclusion by showing that if people are made to watch selective material, they will have the false believe that those things are of greater importance to the society. The more they watched something on T.V., the more they related it to the economy.
I not only think that television is the sole enemy here. All forms of media are very misinformational and misleading. Music is a great contributor to viewing women as inferior the importance of wealth, and interest of drugs. There is so much out in the media that influence the way our society thinks, and the ones affected by it, are usually the ones that say that, "It has no effect on me."

The Fast and The Furious Tokyo Drift. It takes you to a place on the opposite side of the world that 80% of you have never been to, Tokyo. It shows the high life with all the risk and all the fame. They have tricked-out cars that top 180 mph! Cars so fast the cops won't even try to stop them. The star in the movie gets into a lot of trouble with the wrong guys girl friend. A guy whos uncle is the head leader of an under ground mafia. A lot of trouble arises and the only way to get out of it is to race or die. This movie seems really intense with a lot of car action. Definitely a movie for any car lover. This movie also has some really hip music that gets you pumped. The cars in this movie do some pretty intense tricks that make you wishing you could do half of that stuff. This is a movie you definitely have to watch.

THE RUNDOWN Starring: The Rock (Beck) and Seann William Scott (Travis). The Rundown is rated PG-13 for adventure violence, and some crude dialogue. Beck is a bounty hunter who is highly skilled and trained to be effective in any situation. He is sent to a dangerous jungle in Brazil, full of rebels trying to free themselves from the brink of slavery. He is sent there to retrieve his boss's son, Travis, who is a Stanford drop out on the brink of discovering El Gato, a priceless treasure hidden deep within the jungle. Travis and Beck join forces to take down Hatcher, the one in charge of the town who uses power and fear to enslave the citizens. The Rundown is full of humor that will make your cheeks hurt from too much laughing and have you on the edge of your seat, while watching The Rock take over Hatcher's control in a non-stop, pulse racing thrill ride that will make you watch it again and again.

Less Privacy Is Goog For Us

Etzioni, In her article, talks about our privacy and our right for the government to stay out of our business. She gives a very good example of HIV testing of infants. Some gay activists claim that when a baby is tested for HIV and comes back positive, it coherently tells that the mother is also HIV positive, and that information is invading the mothers' privacy. An estimated two thirds of mothers are unaware that they are HIV positive, and even though it would be a good thing to inform the mother, some argue that she should not know unless she asks to know.
Etzioni informs us of the complexity of privacy issues with the topic of biometrics. She gives examples of how it is used at ATM machines to recognize faces so the client can cash checks. But once your face is captured by the computer, the same system can be used to identify you any where in the country, possibly the world. For a more beneficial way to look at this technology is to now that it can be used to properly identify any one. Whether they may be a criminal that has escaped, or some one that didn't go to their hearing, or even to identify some one claiming multiple income tax refunds, having this technology will make it easier for the government to know who we are, where we are doing something, and when we did it. But only if they have a reason, would they care to look for you. This technology is used to protect us, not secretly spy on us.

The Myth of Social Concensus

The Myth of Social Con-census is about a person that is trying to get rid of people abolishing books from local libraries or schools. She believes that books are the means by which people learn of the real world. She gives examples of reasons why some books are banned. Such as, because the book has too dark of a feel, talks too much about a religion, or it has sexual content. Many of the examples she presents cases from schools. There have been incidents where the school librarians have crossed out profanity from the pages of books. She wants to promote freedom of speech through books and if schools or, any one else for that matter, distort the material of a book; it is considered not allowing the author to express their ideas.
I agree with Tisdale to a point. I am totally for freedom of speech and freely expressing ones ideas, but I would not want my younger children to be aware of many of the horrible truths of the world until I figure that they are mature enough to handle it. I would not want my daughter reading books about teenagers having sex and thinking that it is ok to participate in sexual relationships before marriage just because the world has lowered its' standards. Not every one has to conform to they every one else acts.

Evolving Opportunities

The Evolving Opportunities video was all about the different stages that Immokalee has gone through, as well as all of the additions that have taken part in its history. Agriculture has and, in my opinion, always will be the main source of business that will take place there. They grow cucumbers, tomatoes, watermelon and even peppers. One of the main exports that Immokalee farms grow is citrus fruits. With thousands of acres of oranges, grape fruit, and limes, its no wonder why. Once oil was found, it brought a whole new wave of entrepreneurs into play. Exon mobile was one of the biggest companies that bought the oil. They had under ground oil pipes that ran across Florida from Immokalee to Fort. Lauderdale. The Seminole Casino also helped the community grow. It brought in a lot of tourist and a lot of money.
It is really interesting to discover Immokalees' true past. I had no idea how detailed it is. I also have a greater respect of those who have put their whole lives into making it into what it is today. Many decades of back breaking work went into making Immokalee prosperous. As for the Casino, I guess its good business. It employs well over 500 people and it brings in a lot of money for the community.
